The real draw at this Westin is location – it’s right on the beach and it’s got a superb pool & beach scene with a good variety of restaurants right on the property.
The hotel itself is no doubt the “grandest” of Hilton Head hotels It’s nicely appointed and the hotel staff is friendly & well-managed.
The resort strives for a traditional southern-flavored style, and mostly achieves it … but in some spots the Westin is also just a little bit dated.
It is VERY relaxing & quite. The main clientele seems to be families and convention attendees.
Another plus is that you can rent chairs, umbrellas, etc or just sprawl out by the spacious tropical pool complex. There’s also a nice seasonal poolside restaurant & drink scene.
Golf options are just up the road, in the same plantation (Port Royal). Having all of this right near you is good since the Westin does end up being somewhat isolated from other restaurants & shops.

The location here means that you are closer to more “vacation-action” spots than any of the high-quality Hilton Head Island hotels.
This puts you close to a great number of things to do on Hilton Head.
BUT the big thing here is an awesome beach & pool scene. The grounds at the Crown Plaza are top-notch with the beach bordering the very nicely landscaped pool & spa area.
The Crowne Plaza sits amongst golf courses and it’s also tucked away in a residential area - Shipyard Plantation.
This south-end gated plantation community gives the whole Crowne Plaza resort a quiet and laid-back feel. There’s also the added bonus of miles of bike trails and golf & tennis right next door.
You can even bike right out to the adjacent Pope Avenue to hit lots of food & shopping options…and Coligny Beach is just a walk or quick bike ride down the street.
Your fellow resort visitors will be very happy families and convention-goers.

2) Marriott Beach & Tennis Resort,
Hilton Head Island
This very popular hotel offers great amenities and a knock-out beach location. It’s also nicely located in the popular mid-island plantation of Palmetto Dunes.
The beach here is great and the pool areas seem to keep guests happy.
Golf, tennis and even kayaking (through the plantation’s picturesque lagoon system), are right outside the front door.
A slight draw back might be that the hotel’s atmosphere is not nearly as laid-back as any of the other top hotels on this list. This may or may not be a problem depending on what you’re looking for.
The Marriott Beach & Tennis Resort offers up the typical Marriott brand of luxury. The hotel building, grounds and décor are not very stylish, but are clean and well kept.
There are several decent places to eat here, as well as gift & convenience shops. A pleasant yet unexpected find here is a trendy hair salon on the premises.
